Catscan machine breakdown sorted

A breakdown in the catscan machine at Mullingar hospital, which created difficulties for staff and patients and led to significant backlogs, has now been sorted, the Westmeath Examiner understands.

The breakdown, believed to have occurred on Monday, is understood to have made it difficult to assess patients - both for release and admission, which is believed then to have placed pressure on bed spaces.

However, a source has indicated that the machine is now running again so patients are being examined and assessed as normal.
