New library possible for Kinnegad

Kinnegad could have a new library in the not too distant future, Cllr John Shaw was told at the March meeting of Mullingar Municipal District.

Responding to a question by Cllr Shaw on the issue, official Martin Murray said that Westmeath County Library Service is currently working on a new library development plan.

However, this has been delayed by negotiations with trade unions at national level about proposed changes in library services.

When these negotiations are complete, Mr Murray said that the early indications were that the provision of a new library for Kinnegad will form part of the library development plan.

Cllr Shaw was also informed that a review and update of the Record of Protected Structures within MMD will form part of a review of the county development plan, which will commence in January 2018.
