Ex-hurricane Gert and it's effect on our weekend weather

Met Eireann have issued a status yellow rainfall warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo today, and throughout the afternoon, bursts of heavy rain, thundery at times, are expected to cross the Midlands.

These downpours will lead to spot flooding in places but the showers will become more scattered this evening. Feeling fresh with highest temperatures ranging 15 to 17 degrees Celsius. West to northwest breezes will be fresh and gusty, especially around showers and in coastal areas.

Tonight, showers will be scattered, with lowest temperatures between 9 to 12 degrees Celsius.

It will be breezy for a time tomorrow, Saturday, but will be the best day of the weekend, bringing a lot of dry weather, mixed with cloud and sunny spells. Some scattered showers will appear in the evening. Highest temperatures are expected to reach between 15 - 18 degrees.

The effects of ex-hurricane Gert will continue to influence our weather throughout the weekend, bringing an "extra-tropical air feeding up some high rainfall accumulations", according to Met Éireann.

This will be seen particularly on Saturday night with heavy and more thundery rain moving in over the country, again leading to spot flooding in places.

Sunday will be mostly overcast with overnight rain continuing into the daytime hours. The rain will be persistent and sometimes heavy with the ongoing risk of spot flooding. It will be mild and humid with low cloud , with highest temperatures reaching 16 to 20 degrees Celsius.

On Monday, rain will again be persistent at times across western and northern counties, with further spot flooding; elsewhere rainfall will be well scattered but locally heavy. Another mild and humid day in southerly breezes, warm even in parts across parts of the midlands, south and east. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees Celsius, but possibly higher where the afternoon sun breaks through.Â
