Town band to take over radio for 24-hour Easter fundraiser

This Easter weekend, a 24-hour online radio marathon will take place to raise funds for Mullingar Town Band.

It will begin at 6pm on Friday March 30 and continue until 6pm on March 31.

Organiser Kevin Morgan is a former member of the band and former presenter with Midlands 103 radio station.

“I thought I would bring the best of both worlds together and do something I love to do while also raising some money for a fantastic organisation that has been a massive part of the community for almost 140 years,” said Kevin.

The radio marathon will be broadcast online at realcast.co.uk, which is a relatively new online radio station.

“Realcast Radio have been great to allow me to take over the airwaves for practically two days,” said Kevin.

“We are a relatively new station, and the concept is that anyone with an interest in radio and music can sign up and be involved.

“It’s fully licensed and all royalties are paid via PRS for Music and PPL UK.”

The show will feature appearances from band members and staff, Mullingar personalities and local musicians.

“John Cochrane and everyone at The Greville Arms Hotel have been great. We will be broadcasting live from the Greville over the two days, which will be a great base for anyone calling in to keep me awake!”

While staying awake will be one big aim for Kevin, the main purpose of the even is to raise as much funds as possible for Mullingar Town Band.

Donations can be made via ifundraise.ie/mtbradiomarathon.

Listeners can tune in to the radio marathon by visiting realcast.co.uk or by searching ‘Realcast Radio’ on the tune-in smartphone app.
