Planning granted for two new Mullingar schools

Westmeath County Council has granted permission for the construction of two primary schools in Mullingar.
The buildings are to accommodate the Saplings School and Gaelscoil  an Choilinn, and both are to go on the former Penn site.
“This is welcome news,” said Deputy Robert Troy this evening, 
The application was lodged on February 13 by Smith & Kennedy Architects, No 9 Clarinda Park North, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin  on behalf of The Minister of Education and Skill.
The buildings are to have a total combined floor area of 3150m2 with a shared vehicular access and set down area off a new road from the existing roundabout off Lynn Road,
Gaelscoil an Choilinn is to go into a three-storey 1,768m2  eight classroom with general purpose hall while the Saplings building is to a 2-storey 1,934m2 6-classroom building with general purpose hall.
