Delvin area wins two National Awards

Volunteers from 700 HSE Community Games areas were rewarded for their hard work throughout 2009 at the HSE Community Games Area Awards event on Saturday February 6 in The Carlton Shearwater Plaza Hotel, Ballinasloe.The awards - a highlight on the Community Games calendar for volunteers - are a celebration of the excellent work and dedication of volunteers from those areas within HSE Community Games that have achieved high levels of participation by children in a wide range of sports and cultural activities throughout the year.President Micheal Curley welcomed all to the function and congratulated all the winners. He praised them for their efforts in keeping the spirit of HSE Community Games alive. He was delighted with the number of people attending and welcomed the special guests, including Deputy Noel Treacy TD; the Mayor of Ballinasloe Mr. John Walsh and his wife, Mary.Deputy Noel Treacy TD spoke at the event of the importance of organisations such as HSE Community Games in promoting physical activity and community spirit in times like these.Carmel Grealy congratulated all the winners of the area, volunteer and youth awards and urged all volunteers to continue the good work in their respective areas and counties. She paid tribute to the HSE for its continued support of Community Games.As part of the overall ceremony, thirty areas, twenty eight volunteers and twenty four youth volunteers were presented with prizes for their excellent work in HSE Community Games.Delvin AwardsThe HSE Community Games rewarded Delvin, as county winners for their efforts in promoting healthy sporting activities and Delvin also received a very special award for the most improved area in the county. This is an excellent achievement by the parents and adults in the Delvin area and they deserved all the accolades that are bestowed on them. The presentation was made to hardworking committee member, Seamus Gaffney by National Director, Margaret Carroll.
