Midland Triathlon Club host awards night

On Saturday week the Midland Triathlon Club held their annual Club Awards and Christmas Night Out in the Greville Arms Hotel. Organised by Emer Fitzpatrick the night began with awards for various prizes as voted for by the club members. Before relaxing in to a night of celebrations all those in attendance were given a summary of the year the club had and what a year it was!Members of MTC organised a duathlon, a kidathon, three aquathons, a sprint triathlon and an Olympic distance triathlon while training for and competing in many other races. With so much going on there were plenty of athletes to choose from in voting for the various awards. The competition for athletes of the year was very tough. Midlanders not only represented themselves remarkably well in the National Series where a number of athletes picked up awards for finishing in the top three placings of their categories but the club ladies won Second Best Female Club and with the help of the lads won the Third Best Mixed Club category. On top of all that MTC was represented, en masse, in the European Triathlon Championships held in Athlone in July and the World Triathlon Championships held in Budapest in September.Ronan is tops in National SeriesAfter representing his country in Athlone at the European Triathlon Age Group Championships Ronan Bracken went on to finish highest of all the male club members in the National Series, taking third place in his category while he was at it and impressed the vast majority of club members to win Male Triathlete of the Year.Sinead Roche had an incredible season winning various races on the Irish circuit, competing in both the European and World Triathlon Age Group Championships and finishing third overall female in the National Series. It was no surprise she claimed the Female Triathlete of the Year award. For all his hard work and commitment to the club in organising training events, races and representing Midland Triathlon Club and Ireland at both the European and World Triathlon Championships Enda Mimnagh was duly awarded the Club Person of the Year Award.Well done to all and best of luck to all triathletes in racing and organising in 2011. Another big event already creating plenty of interest is the European Duathlon Championships being held in Limerick next April. For more information about the club go to midlandtri.com.
