Colleges teams back in action

With the return to school following the Christmas break, College teams face a busy schedule this week. First into action on Thursday, January 9 are Coláiste Mhuire who play Scoil Mhuire, Clane in the North Leinster PP Juvenile Football ‘A’ in Kinnegad at 12.30pm.

On Saturday the Westmeath Schools senior hurling team will travel to Laois to take on their Laois counterparts in the first round of the Leinster PP SH ‘A’ Corn Uí Dhuill competition.

County teams
Meanwhile both Westmeath senior footballers and hurlers are both out in the coming days. The footballers are doubly engaged, welcoming DCU to Lakepoint Park tomorrow (Wednesday) night, at 7.45pm for their O’Byrne Cup second round tie before travelling to Drogheda on Sunday to take on the Wee County men in a game timed for 2pm.

Having slipped up in their Hastings Cup opener against Kildare last Saturday, Paul Bealin’s charges will be anxious to get the show back on the road on Saturday when they travel to take on Clare.

Brian Hanley’s senior hurlers make their seasonal debut in the Walsh Cup this coming Sunday (Cusack Park, 2pm) when they face DIT. They will be hoping for a victory that would lead to a mouthwatering clash with Kilkenny in Cusack Park the following Sunday.
