Westmeath's Hastings Cup U21 football semi-final against Meath and the Lake County's appearance in the Walsh Shield hurling final against Carlow are the highlights of this weekend's GAA fixtures.

In what will be a useful exercise ahead of the start of the Allianz National Hurling League, Brian Hanley's young charges will look to get their year off to an ideal start by securing some silverware. The throw-in is at 2pm in Dr Cullen Park.

Club cup football action returns to the fore as well, with the derby clash between Coralstown/Kinnegad and The Downs chief among Sunday's Feis Cup fixtures, and an interesting tie between Ballynacargy and Tang the stand-out Intermediate Cup football fixture of the weekend.

The marquee Junior Cup football fixture in the coming days will be Sunday's south Westmeath battle between St Joseph's and Moate All-Whites.
