Niall O'Brien's week just keeps getting better.

Twenty four hours after being named in the Leinster squad for this year's interprovincials the young the forward was the star man in NUIG's 2-20 to 2-16 victory over DCU in the Fitzgibbon Cup yesterday.

O'Brien inspired his team to victory scoring 0-12 (9 frees, 1 '65) as they overcame the team from the capital in Dangan. At the end of the game NUIG's manager Johnny Kelly was full of praise for the Castletown-Geoghegan star.

"Niall is a rare talent and it is a credit to everyone in Westmeath that they have produced a young hurler like him,'' he said.

NUIG are now through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
