Olympic hopes burn brighter for John Joe

Mullingar boxer John Joe Nevin picked up yet another title and a huge boost to his Olympic campaign last week after he fought his way to the EU Championship title in Poland.Beating his 19-year-old Polish opponent on his home territory in the final bout, John Joe left Poland as the winner of the sixth EU championship and will go to Bejing knowing that he beat Junior Level World Championship Bronze Medallist. In his typical modest and quiet fashion John Joe said that he saw the bout in Warsaw as 'just another fight' and would be treating his shot at an Olympic medal in the same way.'I have been well trained to keep my cool, its something that we go over every day and if I can do that I might be in with a shout alright,' he said. The champion"s training regime will step up a notch this week as he will be travelling to France to a specialist sparring camp with the Irish team. With just four weeks to go until he leaves for Bejing the 19-year-old said that he will be doing his usual training on the roads and in the ring.'I can only do my best when I get there and if I take each fight as it comes then I will do okay,' he said.
