Mass on Saturday evening is an Anniversary Mass for the late Joe, Masie and Oliver Newman, Coolnagun and all members of the Newman and Boylan families.ThanksLoretta Newman extends thanks on behalf of the Mental Health Association to all who supported their collection two weeks ago which amounted to €140.CollectionLuke Kiernan reveals that the collection on Cemetery Sunday amounted to €308 and the Cemetery Committee thank all.CongratulationsCongratulations to Tom McNally, Carbury, Co. Longford who received a special award at our Vintage Day for the Jaguar car as did Joe Crann, Mullingar in the pre 1933 section and Cyril Jackson for his tractor. The independent judge was a member of the Irish Vintage Society who said it was a most difficult task with so much quality on view.Tractor runStreete Parish Park Society tractor run from Finea to Galway and back last Friday, Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the Community and friends from Finea was an outstanding success and full credit must go to Gerry Moore, his wife Eileen sons Darren and Conor and their many friends. A team of almost 30 travelled which included ten tractors and a complete back up team with even Brendan Boyce and his low loader in case of any break down - but thankfully he got no business. The ladies and a few gents did a wonderful collection job which was not easy. The support and courtesy received on the road was amazing. Everyone involved did the run entirely at their own expense so 100 per cent of any money collected will go to the Accident and Emergency Unit of Our Lady"s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin. This is in recognition of the hospitality, care and attention given to the Moore family over a five year period some years ago and Streete Parish Park Vintage were honoured to be part of this amazing event. Thanks go to the many who supported the run and should anyone feel like contributing it can be sent to Brian Nerney, Correally, Streete or Gerry Moore, Finea. The return ended with a cup of tea for all outside Streete Parish Park. Thanks to Gretta Duffy and family assisted by Alice Nerney before we proceeded to the end at Fitzsimons pub for a barbecue and music by Ita Tighe organised by Gerry Moore and family and attended by a huge crowd.Streete man at the topBarry Sullivan from Kilmore, Streete Co. Westmeath was elected national secretary of the National Association of Regional Game Councils on Saturday last at a special meeting of the association held in Tullamore. There were three candidates for the position and after the first count Barry had 7 votes over the quota and was deemed elected. He takes up his position immediately. Barry is at present Chairperson of County Longford Shooting and Conservation Council, and is also an active member of his local Club, Streete Wildlife Club, and is its present Asst. Secretary, having just served his three year term as Club Chairman. Speaking to us this week the Secretary of both County Longford Shooting and Conservation Council and Streete Wildlife Club Seamus Denning said it was a great honour for both his club and County Longford to have Barry elected to one of the top positions in the association, and on behalf of all club members he wishes Barry every success in his new job.Boherquill RamblersJohn O"Hara, one of the earliest members of the Boherquill Ramblers, led the group through Melkernagh bog on last Sunday, July 27th. On a day when summer seemed to have arrived at last, John led the group from Clonmore, near Lismacaffrey, through the bog to Killasonna school.Wide, open bogs on hot summer days can be the essence of summer with no thought of rain, the silence broken only by birdsong and at this time of year white bog cotton and purple heather all around. The soft, springy turf was a pleasure to walk on and in places the depth of the peat in the bog could be seen where it had been cut to supply fuel for the coming winter. Much firmer underfoot was the long-abandoned trackbed of a railway line which branched off from the present-day Sligo line between Mullingar and Edgeworthstown. The cool shade of the tree-lined lanes towards the end of the day"s walk was almost a relief after the heat of the bog but on such a fine day nobody really complained about high temperatures! As always John led the party on a walk which was both enjoyable and informative with his great knowledge of the history of the area.Next week the Ramblers will be joined by a group from Kilcormac, County Offaly, for a walk starting at the Friary gates in Multyfarnham. The Ramblers will leave Boherquill as usual at 2p.m. and the walk will begin in Multyfarnham at 2.20p.m.Streete Wildlife ClubAll officers are asked to note that an executive meeting of the Club will be held on Tuesday, 5th August next in the Cornmill, Boherquill at 9.30pm sharp.
