Double doubles on Thursday

Thursday August 14th meeting at Mullingar featured four second round heats of the Danny Cawley Island Golf 400 yds sweepstake together with eight graded races.Thomas Lynch supplied the winner of the first heat with Catunda Dylan which he trains for Dublin owner Patrick Byrne. From a level break he took the lead into the home straight and held on to win by two lengths from Macho Rebel in 21.84.Francis Murray recorded the first leg of the double in the second heat with Porsche Turbo which he trains for London owner, Kevin Gillham. The six to four favourite broke in front and made all the running to win by two lengths from Anglers Fancy in the best return in the stake of 21.49.The Murray double was completed in the third heat with Cordoola Fantasy which he trains for Clones owner Billy Davey. Having been led in the early stages he came with a late surge at the line to claim the spoils by three quarters of a length from Springwell Dill in 21.82.In the fourth heat Quick Design broke in front and held on under pressure from Bookies Bothar all the way to win by one and a quarter lengths in 21.94. The winner is owned in Kildare by Mrs Pamela Blake.Eddie Dunne supplied the winner of the 525 yds first race with Ballinamere Girl which he trains for Clara owner, Pat Cleary. From a level break she took the lead at the first bend and made all the running to hold off the late challenge of Multi Cross by three quarters of a length in the best return of the session of 29.81.Cheeky Black did the business in the 525 yds second race for his trainer, Maldwyn Thomas and Limerick owner, Gerard Barry. Having been led in the early stages by Go Home Rex he took control into the home straight and had two and a half lengths to spare at the line in 30.16.Athlone owner Denis Hannon recorded the first leg of a double in the 400 yds third race with Springwell Ace. From a level break, The Woods led into the home straight where the chasing Springwell Ace came in the late stages to snatch victory by one a quarter lengths in 21.99.Portlaoise owner, Patrick Coss supplied the winner of the 525 yds fifth race with Points First. Having been in arrears in the early stages, he came from way off the pace in the home straight to win by three and a half lengths from Nurse Maria in 30.40.In the 400 yards seventh race, Take Time Out broke in front and made every yard of the running to win by four lengths from Ballinamere Lass in 21.81. The winner was recording her first victory for her Ballyjamesduff owners, Noela and Enda Flanagan. Bright Blue Star broke in front in the 525 yds ninth race and gave a powerful front- running display to win by eight lengths from Kaddys Jack in 30.06. The winner is owned in Drogheda by Michael Murphy. Denis Hannon completed the double in the 400 yards eleventh race with Springwell Sindy. This six to four favourite flashed from the traps and held pole position all the way to score by three lengths in 21.51.In a closely-contested twelfth race over 525 yards, Blue Daisy took the lead into the home straight and held on to win by two lengths from Freds Companion in 30.29. The winner is trained in Tullamore by Marie Garry, which she owns in partnership with Mrs Margaret Flaherty.Double for Seery Kennels on Saturday August 16thDespite the bad weather a good crowd turned out to support the Tullamore Camogie Club Benefit night at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night last August 16th.Rathmore Bridie cut out the running in the opening race, but she was overhauled by the Thomas Garry (Offaly) owned Volant Lola at the turn for home to win by five lengths from Eureka Magic in 33.70 over the 600 yards trip.Gerry Barry"s (Kells) Dalgan Star topped the betting at 2/1 in the second race and she confirmed this market rating in fine style when leading home by eleven lengths from Mullahill Bonnie in 29.61.Barefoot Gambler which is trained by Dan Kavanagh for Danny Aspal (Louth) made massive improvement from a poor start to do the business in the third by five lengths from Maireads Prize in 21.69.Local trainer Frank Seery recorded a double at the meeting when his Sheaintalady and Killeen Twilight both obliged. Sheaintalady owned by Donal Fagan (Westmeath) made all the running from a lively start to win the fourth by three and a half lengths from Granada Romeo in 30.16.Killeen Twilight completed the Seery Double in the eighth race when she made every post a winning one to win by five lengths from Springwell Fifty in 29.58 to record her fifth win on the trot for her Castletown-Geoghegan owners Miss Aoife and Ciara Corcoran.Pat Loughrey"s (Mullingar) Nitro Speedy produced a successful front-running display to win the fifth by a length and three quarters from the 6/4 favourite Leamanseigh Flash in 21.64.Gleneyre produced by far the best performance of the meeting with a very impressive 29.35 return in the sixth race. Owned by Liam Kirley (Offaly) this much improved February "06 dog showed a fine turn of early pace to lead rounding the first bend and thereafter she increased the advantage to win by four lengths from Forsale or Rent.Quakeoleary credited his Laois owner Mrs Valerie Cassins with an overdue win when he produced his best showing so far to win the seventh race by four lengths from Ayers Rock at odds of 5/2 in 29.92.Mermac, which came in for good support in the ninth over the 400 yards course, delivered in fine style for his owners, the Kilmalady Syndicate (Offaly), when leading home by a comfortable six lengths from Shake that Loopy in 21.39.Skeagh Beg which is trained locally by Marie Moran for Liam Egan (Mullingar) broke his long losing sequence when he produced a successful trap-to-line display to win the tenth over the 525 yards trip by a length and a quarter from Boozy Boy in 30.02.The well-backed Lolos Dancer trained by Paddy McCormack did the business in fine style in the concluding race.
