On the first day of camp Sean Reilly who is a coach in Kansas city attended and gave his expertise to the young players.   Congratulations to and all the coaches and organisers on a very well run camp.  Let"s hope it"s the making of future Tony Parkers and Michael Jordans!Referees" courseBasket ball Ireland is running a course for referees in Streete Parish Park on Saturday and Sunday the 6th and 7th Sept. Contact Teresa Daly on 76062 or 087-0682186 for further details.Rathowen UnitedRathowen United kicked off the season last Saturday playing last years league champions The Stillery in Longford Town.  The game started off very lively with Rathowen United creating many chances and went ahead by 2 goals in the first 35 minutes.  These were scored by Niall McGurran and Ryan Lindsey.  Unfortunately Rathowen United conceded an own goal with 5 minutes to go before half time.  The half time score was 2 goals to 1 to Rathowen.  In the second half Rathowen conceded another 'og' and Rathowen United came back against The Stillery and then the score was 3 - 2 with Niall McGurran scoring a 3rd goal for the team (his second). Unfortunately again for Rathowen United they conceded 2 more 'og"s' and the game was lost.  Rathowen United were missing some of their key players due to other sporting commitments.Let"s hope they get back into their winning ways soon.Double celebrationsCongratulations to Paddy Casey and Philomena Whelan who married last Friday and also to Mark Duke and Annette Kenny who married last Saturday.  Both weddings were in Edgeworthstown church.  Paddy is the son of Ann and the late Liam Casey Clonwhelan, and Mark is the son of James and Jane Duke school lane Rathowen.We wish both couples a very happy life together.NotesAny one who would like to put in notes please contact Vincent Maguire on 087 2603364 or drop in notes to Lorraine at the post office.St Mary"s National SchoolMonday the 1st September sees the opening of the new term 2008 - 2009 for the children of Rathowen.  The new times are starting 9.10am and finishing at 2.50pm.  Only one more week and the good weather will be back!
