Tyrone in 1945. His early days were spent pursuing his main interests of sport and art. Very early drawings included friends playing the violin, the tin whistle or story telling at social gatherings where everyone present was expected to participate in some form.Roy"s talent was to sketch the many great characters that would congregate at such events. His studies of Ireland, its people and places are sensitive interpretations of a place with almost as many moods as characters. His Dublin creations are heartfelt responses to that place where historical beauty meets modern decay, a juxtaposition which inspires the creativity that Roy demonstrates time and again.Roy graduated in textiles from Huddersfield College of Technology in 1966 and worked for some time in the textile industry. From 1978 until 1982 he lectured in textile design at The National College of Art & Design Dublin whilst painting part-time from home. Having then embarked on a full-time painting career he went on to become one of Ireland"s foremost artists. Roy and his wife Kathryn ran the Roy Lyndsay Art Gallery in Blackrock between 1984 and 1992 before moving to Westmeath where they live today. His works are included in major public and private collections at home and abroad including those of Aer Lingus; Bord Telecom Eireann; The I.R.F.U; President, the late Dr Patrick Hillery; and the late former Taoiseach, Charles J Haughey. He has had one man exhibitions in the Lincoln Gallery Dublin, Kilakee Art Gallery Dublin, and the Miramar Art Gallery Malaga Spain. His group exhibitions include The Royal Hibernian Academy, The Killarney Art Gallery, The Grapevine Gallery Dublin, and The Concept Art Gallery Pittsburgh U.S.A. His works are sold mainly at auction with James Adams, DeVere Whites of Dublin, Sotherbys and Christies of London.
