Castle Barna Golf Club notes

Castle Barna is showing the signs of the nice fine week and Kieran and his greenkeeping staff have been busy at work and the course is in fine shape.It"s also been a very busy week with the seniors on Tuesday, the ladies on Wednesday and then the Thursday open witch is still proving very popular, so popular this week with large enough numbers that there was five prizes.The winner on Thursday was Fergal McCormack (16) from Athlone golf club with 39 points in second place was Pat O Connell, third was David Brazil, forth was David Gavigan and fifth was Lewis Cunningham. The seniors was won by Noel Baker with 39 points and a close second was Pat O Connell with 38 points.Competition in the Tullamore Nissan sponsored Winter League is hotting up with only one more qualifying game to go. Shay Egan (8) just pipped Kevin Mann (16) to take first place with a better back 9 as they both had 42 points, the rest of the victorious were, Division 1 Ger Meehan (10) with 39 points, division 2 Was Padraig Egan (14) with 42 points, division 1 was Alan Dalton (19) also with 42 points, and after a good practice round on Tuesday seniors Captain Kevin Prendergast (24) won division 4.Don"t forget next Sunday, March 1 is Captains drive in so make sure you all come to support our Captains Mavis and Declan on their special day.Anyone interested in playing for Castle Barna in competitions keep an eye on the notice board for competitions that suit your handicaps.Also the club competition for your membership paid for is still running and it is a good bet for €10.The stewards for next week are Pat Rodgers and Anthony Lynch, and just to remind anyone that cant do their stewards duty to please get a replacement as it is essential to the smooth running of the Sunday Competition.
