Four areas welcomed back into Community Games

Whether it is the times we now live in or that parents are making a conscious effort to have their children take part in healthy sport and cultural activities, we don"t know.But whatever the reasons, we in Community Games are delighted to see that the children from Auburn/Town Centre, Ballinderry, Drumraney/Tang and Streete Areas will now be given every opportunity to pursue the sport of their choice.We welcome the above four Areas back into the Games and hope that all parents and adults living in these areas will give the newly elected committees their full support and we wish them every success in the future.Auburn/Town Centre Area, comprising of the Town Centre, Auburn Road, Harbour Street, Newlands, Pettitswood Manor, Beechlawns are now affiliated to Community Games and have plans to hold art, model making, gymnastics, swimming, under-14 table quiz competitions and also a sports day in early May. If your children are interested in taking part in any of these events, then, please contact Larry Murphy at 087 9263494 immediately.The Area are holding their art and quiz competitions on Wednesday night, 25th March at 7 p.m. and also taking names for gymnastics and swimming in the Community Games Centre, Lynn Industrial Estate (beside Town Band Hall).Ballinderry Area are now registered and ready to go with competitions in art and model making, plus an under-14 quiz. This will take place on this Friday night, March 20 at 7 p.m. in the Community Games Centre, Lynn Industrial Estate (beside Town Band Hall) Registration for gynamstics and swimming will also be taken on the night.If you live Newtown Lawns, Chestnut Drive, Chestnut Grove, Lynn Heights, Hillview, Lynn Ave., Hillside Drive, Highfield, New and Old Ballinderry, then please contact Pearse Murphy at 087 2909365 for details.Kilbeggan, Rathowen, Milltownpass and Rosemount are four areas who have enjoyed many years of successful participation in the Community Games but now find themselves having to take a break because the parents in those areas cannot come together to provide healthy sport and cultural activities for their children.Summer Team Games ClosedThe entries for the Summer Games, i.e. Gaelic football, soccer, hardcourt tennis, camogie, hockey, rounders and tag rugby are now closed. The draw will be made this week and sent out to the areas involved and we would appeal to team managers to play their games by the dates set out in order that we have the programme completed in time to registrar with Leinster by 15th May.Art, Singing and QuizThe 31st March is the closing date for entries for the following competitions: Art & Model Making, Recitation, Culture Corner, Comedy Sketch. Solo Modern Dance, Set Dancing/Trad. Irish, Modern Dance Group, Group Singing, Under-14 Quiz, Cross Country, Sports Induction. Only panel forms received by 31st will be included in draw.National FinalsEntries are now coming in for volunteers to help out at the National Finals in Athlone in administration and event management: Security, Stewarding and Car-parking, Finnance/gate; Reception and Information Desk; Results and Accommodation Office; PR Office; Hospitality.Event Officials (judges/referees/adjudicators/co-ordinators/assistants/timekeepers) for: Dance (modern, traditional Irish and contemporary); Art/Projects; Handball; Choir/Group singing/Solo music; Indoor Soccer; Chess/Draughts; Table Quiz; Athletics (relays/cross country) and Presentations.Please indicate which of the above roles you are interested in becoming involved at our May Festival weekend and wish to carry out. and contact your Area Secretary or call our County Secretary direct as the deadline is 16th March.Some of those who volunteer will need to attend a special training event, yet to be confirmed but expected to be during the day on one of the Saturdays in April.
