Under 12s unbeaten start continues

Kilbeggan/St Joseph"s unbeaten start to the year continued in an exciting game on a heavy pitch in Kilbeggan on April 16.With a strong breeze blowing right down the pitch, this game was the proverbial game of two halves. There were nine minutes on the clock before Sean Pettit tapped over a free.Na Fianna then piled on the pressure scoring 3-05 unanswered along with hitting the post a couple times and bringing out a couple of great saves from Keith Corcoran in the Kilbeggan/St Joseph"s goals. The full back line of Ryan Coughlan, Morgan Mealiffe and Ronan Cooper worked hard to ensure that the Na Fianna score was kept to a minimum. Ciaran Egan along with Captain for the day Bart Gorski and Dean Donnegan all defended well. Up front, Aaron McDonnell, Eoin Kelly and Sean Hanlon made good use of the limited ball they received. From the start of the second half, James Finnegan, James Fox and Brendan McMahon took control of the game in the middle third of pitch as Kilbeggan/St.Joseph"s started to get a grip on the game.A pointed free from Aaron McNamee was followed by a goalmouth scramble in which James Finnegan toed home a goal. The next score came when Kilbeggan were awarded a 45.Brendan McMahon took the 45 quickly to Aaron McNamee who gave a quick return to McMahon who slotted the ball between the posts for a point. Na Fianna came back up the field to score a point but Gearoid Farrell, Kian Cooper and Hugh Boyle were keeping their counterparts at bay. Then came two goals from Sean Maher who was in great form all night followed by a couple of pointed frees from Aaron McNamee and Sean Pettit. Na Fianna also scored a point from a free just after Maher"s goals.Sean Pettit then finished off the scoring with a well taken goal which was well laid on by Jody Canavan. Morgan Mealiffe was again excellent at full back catching some great ball and clearing well while Michael Pettit played well at corner forward. Both teams can take a lot from this competitive challenge game. This was Na Fianna"s first game of the year and they will be a major factor in the Offaly U12 competitions. They are strong team with a very good goal keeper. Kilbeggan/St Josephs next game is against Castledaly in Phase 1 of the league.Kilbeggan/St.Joseph"s team.
