IFA's thanks to Mullingar

Dear Editor, On behalf of Westmeath I.F.A. I would like to thank the business people of Mullingar for their understanding and support of the tractorcade on October 12th, 2009. I would also like to thank the Gardai Siochana for their assistance. The tractorcade was part of I.F.A.'s ongoing National Campaign for equity and fairness form the government for farm families. Government cuts on vital farm schemes are significantly contributing to this fall in income. The IFA are calling for a reversal of cuts to Reps and Disadvantage areas which are a vital support to farmers and the wider rural economy. Six hundred farmers in Westmeath will be locked out of Reps in 2010 with the average payment €6,200. Farmers spend 70% of their Reps in local Co op and business' in Mullingar and so these cuts represent a danger to the local economy.Renewed thanks and appreciation.
