Postmortem awaited following suspicious death in Mullingar

Gardaí are continuing their investigation into the suspicious death of a man at an apartment block in Mullingar, which was reported on Monday morning.A Garda spokesperson said that at 7.30am this morning, the body of a man was discovered "under suspicious circumstances" at the Grove Court apartment complex off Grove Street, in the centre of Mullingar town.Sources close to the Westmeath Examiner say that the deceased, who is in his late 20s or early 30s, is believed to be a native of Tyrone, who has lived and worked in Mullingar for a number of years.The Garda Technical Bureau sealed off the Grove Court complex after 8am this morning, to carry out a forensic analysis.The State Pathologist, Professor Marie Cassidy arrived at the scene this afternoon, and it is expected that a postmortem will be carried out early tomorrow (Tuesday).The Garda spokesperson confirmed that early investigations into the cause of death are "not conclusive".The body was removed from the scene at around 6pm on Monday evening.Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Grove Street area between 6pm on Sunday, February 14 and Monday morning before 9am, and who may have observed anything unusual or anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044-9384000, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.Updated 6.14pm
