A little bit of Indie this weekend

On Saturday, April 17, Yngve & the Innocent plus guests Arrow in the Sky and James O'Connor with Audrey Trainor will appear in the Stables, Mullingar.German-born and Irish-raised, Yngve (pronounced Ing-vuh) Wieland has been simmering under the skin of the music industry since 2004. Growing up in rural Sligo in the eighties, it was his dad's weekly blues sessions that fuelled his interest in music. Now Yngve has, amongst various headline appearances, shared bills with Jape, Katell Keineg, Nina Hynes and Paul Weller, and has just released his debut album 'Tell Men This'.Featuring a full band, guest musicians and cover art by Dublin artist and musician Bennie Reilly, Yngve and his band have performed live on the RTE Radio 1 show 'Today with Pat Kenny' and on the Roadcaster with Jenny Greene as special guest for the 2fm School of Rock.Selected by Jump.ie as one of the best three Irish indie albums 'Tell Men This' track Little Boy was also chosen by Irish music mag Hot Press to have a video made for it by the famous New York Tisch School for the Arts which was premiered along with the other selections in the Sugar Club, Dublin last December.Themes of childhood innocence, love, and loss of both are evident throughout the tracks. The faint aroma of melancholia lingers, and it has been said that at times Yngve seems like a very young 'old soul'!Playing support is Mullingar band Arrow in the Sky, who have played with the likes of Mark Geary, Colm Lynch, Villagers and have just finished a very successful seventeen date tour of Ireland. Arrow in the Sky have been compared to Fleetwood Mac, Turin Brakes, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Simon and Garfunkel. Yet listening to Arrow in the Sky is like listening to a new genre of music. Blending what has influenced them with their own individual styles to create a fresh take on folk/rock. Also playing on the night is James O'Connor, twenty-three-year-old musician from Laois, who has been writing songs for the last number of years. His first appearance in the Irish charts with his playlisted track "Mr. Moon" appearing on the top 5 album "Our Space".After teaming up with Audrey Trainor, a classically trained violinist and music lecturer from Omeath in County Louth, they have been performing all around Ireland, the UK, and the USA .In fact while in America, they recorded a live studio album in the world famous Sun Studio with James Lott, who previously recorded U2 and the week before had recorded Robert Plant there.
