Wilson's Hospital School Junior rugby team are Leinster champs

The Junior boy's rugby team at Wilson's Hospital School set off to play the Leinster Section 'A' School's Junior League final against Sandford Park School with great expectations and high hopes for a well deserved victory.WHS has seen great sporting achievements this season with teams playing in no less then six finals. The Senior boy's rugby team contested two finals, followed both of the Senior girl's hockey teams in league finals and finally the Junior girl's hockey team also representing the school in a league final. Sadly, all of these matches ended unsuccessfully for Wilson's Hospital School, so this all added to the anticipation and excitement for the Junior rugby team.Team captain, Alan Brabazon led the lads out to an exciting start. In the opening minute Moate native, Daniel Buckley scored the first try of the game. Sandford came back strongly with two kicks making the score line 5-6 in their favour. In this first half, there were some good breaks from Robert McMickan, Michael Green and Jake Howlett.The second half opened equally strongly with Michael Green scoring within two minutes. This was quickly followed with a try from Andrew Coade. Lochlainn McDonnell, Alvaro Lopez Benito and Mark Walker put in some hard tackles and breaks leading to Arthur Brabazon scoring another try. Unfortunately near the end of the match, David Small was injured and had to leave the pitch. His skill and motivation was sorely missed from the remaining play. In the last few minutes of the game Andrew Coade had a great run, making a huge dive over the try line to end the match with a brilliant 20-9 victory for the Wilson's Hospital School junior boy's rugby team.The team would like to thank all the people who supported them throughout the season, both in school and at their matches, especially the team coaches, Frances Butler and Freddie Butler.The squad includes: Joe Bennett, David Small, Alvaro Lopez Benito, Jamie Gordon, Nathan Sharpe, Stuart Kennedy-Fennell, Neville Walker, Mark Walker, Jack Mills, Lochlainn McDonnell, Daniel Buckley, Gregor Potterton, Owen Lloyd, John Nixon, Arthur Brabazon (Captain) Rueben Pepper-Hobbs, Robert McMickan, Jake Howlett, Michael Green, Andrew Coade, Ben Lloyd, Gavin Dolan, Stuart Wilson, Mark Butler, Andrew Bonham, Stephen Hyde, Matthew Coade.
