Sarah Duigenan

Sarah Emily Duigenan, of Farthingstown, Rochfortbridge, came after a short spell of ill health for a woman who had been living independently until a short time before her death, and who was fully alert in mind, and young at heart.Mrs. Duigenan, who was a native of the area, would have been 88 in August.A very hard working woman, she farmed all her life with her husband, the late John ("Jack") Duigenan, who, sadly, predeceased her in 1996. She was devoted to her family, and was held in the highest of esteem by all in the area, who spoke of her kindness, and of how she was a very good neighbour. While she farmed actively, Mrs. Duigenan had a special fondness for her hens, and also loved flowers, having been known, for many years, for the bright and cheerful displays of geraniums she produced every year. She was also an extremely devout woman, with a great faith in the church. Over the course of her life, she made many pilgrimages to Knock, and often undertook the all-night vigils there. She was a member of the PTAA all her life, and was awarded the Fr. Cullen Medal.Mrs. Duigenan is survived by her sons, Paddy (Lucan), Richard (Tralee), Noel (Rochfortbridge), Eamon (Rochfortbridge) and her daughter, Moira Flynn, Churchtown, Dublin. She was predeceased by a daughter, Angela, who died in childhood. Mrs. Duigenan is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; her daughters in law, Rita (Lucan), Angela (Tralee), Eily (Rochfortbridge) and Margaret (Rochfortbridge); as well as by her brothers, George Gordon (Mullingar), Sandy (Canada), and her sister, Moira Glynn (Tyrrellspass).
