Celebrating 2011 Bloomsday the Mullingar way!

The launch of the 2011 Mullingar Bloomsday Event, set to take place on Thursday, June 16, took place in the Greville Arms on Monday evening, where writer, documentary maker and Irish Times columnist, Manchan Magan discussed the trials and tribulations of the James Joyce literary masterpiece, Ulysses. The works of James Joyce have many associations with Westmeath, as he spent many two summers in Mullingar in 1900 and 1901, and his stories feature the Greville Arms Hotel, the Hill of Uisneach amongst other references to the Midlands. To celebrate this, there are a string of new events added to the line-up this year, including author and playwright Michael Harding who will act as a Joyce Pop-Up reader, appearing in local coffee shops throughout Bloomsday. To read more see this week's edition of the Westmeath Examiner
