Back with a bang: John Heslin helped himself to three points for the U21s on Wednesday night

Westmeath in second half rout of Carlow

Senior panellists John Heslin and Callum McCormack kicked three points apiece as Westmeath disposed of Carlow in the Leinster U21 football championship at Carlow IT last night.Although Carlow struggled throughout, Westmeath were less than impressive in a dour first half, at the end of which they led by a point. But the Lakesiders turned on the style in the second half, with McCormack particularly to the fore, and Heslin kicking a wonderful point from distance, underlining his return to the fold. Two late points from Kelvin Reilly applied the gloss, and Pat Flanagan's charges now face Dublin in the semi-finals on March 21.For a full report and reaction, see next week's edition of the Westmeath Examiner.
