What is Teen Aware?

Teen Aware aims to provide a forum for young people to raise awareness of their mental health and the services that are available to them to support their mental health needs.

For the last two years, a concert has been organised with the aim of bringing young people together through music and enjoyment and espousing the theme of positive youth mental health.

The event also provides an opportunity for young people to get away from the run-of-the-mill and pressures of school, and socialise in an enjoyable atmosphere.

Relevant and appropriate mental health agencies are invited to attend and engage with young people about the services they provide.

Drop-in posts are located around the grounds and young people are encouraged to learn more about their mental health and the support services available and how to access them.

The concert takes place on Good Friday every year and a strict alcohol-free environment is enforced and provided for the young people.

The key themes for the 2013 concert are positive mental health, road safety and anti-bullying.

The Teen Aware event is organised through a voluntary committee of individuals from different backgrounds who are seeking to respond to the issue of youth mental health.

A huge team of volunteers are there on the da, from the Order of Malta, HSE, gardaí, Civil Defence, local authorities, schools and as security personnel.
