Rosemount’s Declan Slevin handcycled from Dublin to Galway to raise money for the Irish Wheelchair Association.

Declan, Aidan Browne and Irish Paralympian Cathal Miller departed Áras an Uachtaráin at 7.30am and arrived in Eyre Square at around 6.30pm, after clocking up 210k.

The day “went great,” said Declan, and the weather was only a minor inconvenience. Paralympian champion Mark Rohan cycled along with the group from Athlone to Ballinasloe while many of Declan’s friends from Rosemount Cycling Club also participated.

Padraig Malynn, Padraig Browne, Niall Keenan and Kieran Dunican joined up in Moate and cycled along the N6 to Galway city.
Rosemount Cycling Club raised €2,200, all of which will go to the Irish Wheelchair Association.

Declan was also appreciative of Supermac’s, where they stopped for a break.
“I’d like to thank Supermac’s in Moate, who sponsored the food for everyone on the cycle.

It was very generous of them and is much appreciated,” he said.
“I’d also like to thank my friends and family and everyone who wished me well on the cycle,” added Declan.

Declan’s next charity cycle will be on September 14, which is for the Tony Parker Foundation.

The 60km cycle will start in Mount Temple, taking in Moate, Kilbeggan, Tullamore, Clara, Tubber and finish back in Mount Temple.
Yesterday (Monday) Declan and his wife Evelyn celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary and are now enjoying a break in France.
