The canvass trail claims its first two victims!

The canvass trail has already claimed its first two victims as Westmeath County Council cathaoirleach Cllr Peter Burke, and Mullingar Town councillor Gerry Sheridan, suffered injuries after encountering vicious dogs.

At last night’s (Tuesday May 13) final meeting of Mullingar Town Council, Cllr Gerry Sheridan who was on crutches, told how he had been chased by two dogs and pulled a muscle in his leg as a result.

Meanwhile, Cllr Peter Burke posed for a photo showing the injuries he sustained to his right leg after being bitten by a dog whilst out canvassing in Streete.

“I was in Rathconrath when I saw two dogs coming at me,” explained Cllr Sheridan. “I had to run to the car and I pulled a muscle. I’ve had to have physiotherapy as a result. “My sympathies are with Cllr Burke who got bitten out in Streete,” he said.
