Table Quiz for Gavin Hannon's Ugandan cycle

A table quiz will be held this Friday night, June 27, in Number 1 by Gavin Hannon, originally from Royal Canal, Mullingar, to raise money for a charity cycle he is doing this November in Uganda in aid of World Vision Ireland.

Gavin, a 33-year-old retail manager based in Dublin, will cycle over 70km day for 10 days (November 13-23) over mountainous terrain, sleeping in tents along the way.

"World Vision do some great work in Africa helping communities by getting kids into education, building hospitals and helping people who suffered severe brutality recover from their ordeals,” explains Gavin.

“I signed up for this cycle as World Vision asked me if I would be interested as I currently sponsor a child with them. The money raised will go directly to a community in Uganda, in the Rukiga area, where families earn about 25 cent per person per day. It was a spur of the moment thing that I decided to do, so I’m currently in training, cycling 20km after work and trying to build on that weekly.

“I am hosting a fundraising table quiz this Friday June 27 from 8pm upstairs in the Number 1 bar in Mullingar. I really need to get a crowd going to help me support this wonderful cause. It’s great, because when I’m Uganda, I’ll get to meet the people in the communities which the money will be going towards.

“I’ve €800 raised so far, and I have to reach €5,000, so the more that come along on Friday the merrier!”
