Ploughing live on irish tv

Irish TV, Ireland’s first international TV channel, will broadcast three days of live coverage from this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Laois.

Live coverage from the event will be broadcast online from 10am to 6pm and on Sky TV from 3-5pm each day from the 23-25 of September.

This marathon live broadcast will air on the Irish TV channel on Sky 191, Freesat 400, all free-to-air boxes, Eircom’s eVision 191 and online at www.irishtv.ie.

To mark the occasion, Irish TV will launch its new agricultural programme Grassroots on the first day of the championships.

Grassroots is Ireland’s first 32-county agriculture programme that will visit a different homestead each week to show what life is like on the small family farm.

Grassroots will also highlight the importance of agri-trade links to farmers on both sides of the border.

The three-day live show from the Ploughing Championships will also include expert interviews from senior figures in Irish agriculture.

New EU Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan will be interviewed on the show as well as Irish Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney and An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Irish TV will also have all the action from the ploughing competition and host Pierce O’Reilly will chat to farmers taking part in the championships and some of the previous year’s winners.

“The National Ploughing Championships is the highlight of the social calendar in rural Ireland and we are delighted to be able to broadcast three days of wall-to-wall coverage from the event,” said Irish TV head of broadcast Malachi Cush.

“With programming like this and our new 32-county agricultural show Grassroots, we are creating a new platform for rural Ireland to talk to the world.

“Rural Ireland needs its voice heard both at home and abroad – and we believe that we are the platform for that voice.”
