Kilbeggan business wins enterprise awards

Kilbeggan based business, John Gannon Concrete Ltd T/a Gannon Eco has been selected as the winner of the 2014 Local Enterprise Office Enterprise Awards.

The competition is part of the National LEO Enterprise Awards organised by the national network of Local Enterprise Offices to give recognition to the contribution of small enterprises to the national economy.

Niall Gannon, managing director of John Gannon Concrete, was presented with the award at a ceremony in the Radisson Hotel, Athlone on September 30 and will go on to represent Westmeath in the regional competition. Successful regional winners will go on to the national final to be held later in the year.

John Gannon Concrete Ltd is a precast concrete manufacturing company which is owned by Niall Gannon and it is under this corporate structure that the waste material reprocessing business, Gannon Eco was formed.

Gannon Eco is an environmental solution provider for non-hazardous industrial wastes. Services include on-site waste management solutions, waste logistics, waste reprocessing, waste recycling and waste research.

Wastes accepted at Gannon Eco are reprocessed for use in products manufactured at their facility or as raw material for industry.

They are producers of aggregate concrete products and a range of reprocessed glass products such as shot-blasting abrasives and water filtration media. The business currently employs nine full time and one part time person.

In congratulating the winner, Pat Gallagher, CEO, Westmeath County Council, outlined the excellent record which Westmeath entrepreneurs have had to date in the national enterprise awards, previously hosted by the county enterprise boards.

In 2010, Robotic and Drive Services, a robotics company run by Ken McNevin and Stephen Nolan, based in Forest Park, Mullingar, were one of the eight finalists in the country.

In 2003, Westmeath County Winner, Grouse Lodge Recording Studio Ltd, Rosemount, took first place at the National Enterprise Awards and went on to win joint first at the World Young Business Achievers Awards in Bulgaria in 2004.

In 2011 saw Soltec (Ireland Ltd) and its owner Michael Corcoran, Mullingar, also reached the final eight, and in 2012 Advanced NDT Solutions and its promoters, David Cassidy and Mark Finegan, located in Athlone, reached the final stages.

He went on to wish Gannon Eco good luck in next phase of the competition and thanked all finalists involved for taking the time to make their applications and meet the judges.
