Nevin on the undercard for televised macklin bout next month

Fresh from a short but sweet comeback bout in North Carolina last Saturday, Mullingar boxer John Joe Nevin has been confirmed for a major televised fight night in Dublin next month.

The Olympic silver medallist has confirmed that he is on the undercard for 'Tipperary Tornado' Matthew Macklin's rescheduled WBC international middleweight title eliminator against Jorge Sebastian Heiland on Saturday November 15.

Nevin's opponent is not known at this time, but the bout - which takes place at Dublin's 3 Arena, as part of a big night of boxing - will be televised on Sky Sports, and will be Nevin's first professional outing on home turf.

Nevin says that he is "feeling perfect" after recovering from an assault last April - which left him with two broken legs - and the invitation to the November 15 fight night is perfectly timed.

The 'Mullingar Shuffler' told the Westmeath Examiner that he is due to return to Ireland from the US next week, to concentrate on his sparring in the lead-up to the Macklin show.

John Joe hopes to attract a good crowd of supporters to the 3 Arena, and is inviting fans to contact him on Facebook to get their names in for tickets, which are expected to be on sale for €30, €50 and €70.

Nevin, who defeated Puerto Rican Alberto Candelaria in his super-featherweight pro debut on St Patrick's Day, made his comeback by knocking out debutant Calvin Stifford after 86 seconds last Saturday night.
