Ladies day at Kilbeggan last year.

New york trip will be a big draw at kilbeggan on saturday

‘Style is a way to say who you are – without having to speak,’ they say.

That may well be true, but the winner of the Best Dressed Lady Competition at this Saturday’s Kilbeggan Races is unlikely to be able to stay silent for long.

The winner will, after all, be receiving a fantastic prize: a three-day trip for two to New York, with flights courtesy of British Airways and free accommodation.

In New York, the winner will be personally styled by Irish New York designer Jacqueline Quinn, with outfits to the value of €2,500 and including €500 of Zack Lo designer shoes.

Jacqueline Quinn is one of the most successful designers based in New York and won prizes like the ‘Best Evening Wear Designer’ at the Hollywood Fashion Awards.

She will be opening stores in Ireland and Paris in 2016/17.

Some of Jacqueline’s clients include the singer Estelle and Natasha Beddingfield.

This is an occasion not to be missed by any lady with “designs” on winning a unique prize.

Helena Flynn (originally from Kilbeggan) who is Head of PR for British Airways in Europe, Asia, Pacific, Middle East, and Africa will be judging the competition.

Helena will be joined by Paris Donnatella Callan, creative director for Fashion And Styling Trends (FAST), a New York based fashion consultancy company and magazine, which has been noted as the definitive publication for fashion and trend.

THE DAY THE BOOKIES LOST

The Midland’s National day brought a windfall for the punters, as the bookies drowned under the weight of six winning favourites or joint favourites and a second favourite – the longest priced at 9/2. The race was a benefit for Gigginstown Stud with Ravished 7/2F winning with Paul Townsend riding, as Bryan Cooper dislocated his thumb in an earlier race.

The only danger was previous dual Kilbeggan winner Akorakor also owned by Gigginstown , who fell at the last. Jessica Harrington kept up her recent successful run with Tri na Ceile and Aidan O’Brien trained Carrganog to win the novice chase for JP McManus and ridden by the impressive Mark Walsh. Henry de Bromhead won with the useful Danefirth, not knowing that twelve days later he would win the Galway Plate with Shanahan’s Return.

Next Saturday evening will provide yet another great meeting with three sponsored races including the Pig ‘N’ Whistle Pubs and Restaurants New York maiden hurdle, sponsored by John Mahon, New York and Longford; the Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey Mares Novice Hurdle generously sponsored by Kilbeggan Whiskey Irish Whiskey; Tom Bermingham Menswear are again sponsoring the bumper: and the Joe Cooney Memorial Hurdle is also sponsored by the Bank House Family in memory of a great contributor to Kilbeggan Races.
