Water pouring down the steps of the old graveyard at Fore

Localised flooding in the wake of afternoon's downpours

Localised flooding on roads around Mullingar and parts of North Westmeath is causing concern to motorists this afternoon.

In some areas, flood waters are as high as roadside kerbs.

Met Eireann warned that there would be “heavy rain” this afternoon, with a possibility of sleet in places.  Temperatures could be as low as 3 degrees.

Tonight it is to be mostly dry, but with frost early on.

For tomorrow, there is wind on the cards which are likely to become “very strong” in the afternoon and evening.

Cllr Una D’Arcy sent in this picture showing water running down the steps to the old graveyard in Fore.
