'Wanton vandalism' on Dominick Square condemned
A Mullingar county councillor has condemned what he described as "mindless behaviour" in the town last night (Thursday night/Friday morning), which resulted in property being damaged on Dominick Square.
Hanging baskets maintained by Westmeath County Council were smashed, benches "kicked in" and various other property damaged, Cllr Davitt said.
Council staff cleared up the mess first thing this morning.
"It's pure wanton vandalism," said Cllr Davitt. "There's no excuse for this kind of behaviour nowadays.
"It's time to get tough on the people who get a kick out of attacking our community."
A spokeperson for Mullingar Gardaí said this morning (Friday) that while nothing had been reported to them so far, they would make further enquiries.
"Whatever took place could have been picked up by CCTV," the spokesperson added.
