Delvin Garradrimna Book Fair 2016, Sunday May 1

The Delvin ‘Garradrimna’ Book Fair has been named the largest book fair in the midlands and the organisers are promising that it will only get bigger.

More than 3,000 people attended last year, when more than 25,000 titles were on display and there were plenty of satisfied customers going home at the end of the day.

That was what the organisers had wanted to ensure – that people would leave Delvin with a bargain and plenty to talk about, and the feedback they received has indicated that they achieved that.

This year, it is estimated that there will be more than 30,000 high quality books on sale on Sunday May 1.

In addition to books, the fair also caters for those who enjoy browsing through craft markets, picking up the unique bargains that have always been associated with the fair.

So, on Sunday May 1 you could spend a few hours drinking coffee, listening to readings from Eamon Lawlor, Frank Shouldice and others at Delvin Cattle Market.

It is also important to note that the winning stories from this year’s short story competition, held in conjunction with the Westmeath Examiner and sponsored by Bloomfield House Hotel, Rock ‘n’ Bowl and Just Books, will be read out at the fair.

Music is to be provided by various artists, offering sounds to suit every ear. Remember, as always, parking and admission are free, and there will even be someone to help you to the car with your purchases.

This is one of those events that you should not miss and one that you should tell your friends about. Irish TV have been to Delvin to find out more about the book fair – see irishtv.ie/westmeath-matters-45 – and there will be information and updates on Facebook – search for ‘Delvin Garradrimna Book Fair’.
