Chris wows as Danny Zuko on Ray D'Arcy Show

Chris Corroon wowed viewers recently when he performed Greased Lightning for none other than Olivia Newton-John live on the Ray D'Arcy Show.

The Mullingar show-stopper will now be appearing in Tullamore Musical Society's production of Sweeney Todd from Saturday February 4.

On The Ray D'Arcy Show, he performed with the T-Birds of Gerry Mulligan, Barry Dunne and Bob Madden as backing dancers, and told the Westmeath Examiner what an honour it was to sing for the original Sandy!

Having first played Danny Zuko in a school musical, and again in 2014 for Athlone Musical Society, as well as choreographing Grease for JNC Productions in Mullingar last summer, it was no problem for the multi-talented Chris to perform on TV.

"I thought it was a joke at first. Then I got the call to say they needed somebody to perform Greased Lightning and that the special guest was Olivia Newton-John. It was crazy," says Chris, and a timely boost to what had been a very difficult week.

"My dad Paddy passed away the week before. He loved all the musicals and I know he would have wanted me to do it," he tells the Westmeath Examiner. "It's been a really hard couple of weeks, but then this happened and it was the first time my Mam smiled, or anyone smiled in my house in a long time. So I was like, 'Thanks Daddy!'"

Needless to say Chris's mum Betty and family were all very proud, as was the town of Mullingar, who were all watching and cheering Chris on at home.

"Olivia was lovely, I bumped into her backstage and she was just chatting away," he continues. The banter continued live on the show, with Chris joking that he would be available to play Danny Zuko again, as long as Olivia directed!

You catch Chris tomorrow night in Sweeney Todd in Tullamore. He then goes on to star in Legally Blonde for Athlone Musical Society, and CATS for Clara Musical Society towards the end of March.
