Mr Jude Productions present Shakers, a play by John Godber

After the phenomenal success of Bouncers last year, one of Mullingar’s newest theatre groups, Mr Jude Productions, brings you another hilarious, thought provoking and gritty play from the same author.

Instead of four male bouncers, this is a play about four female cocktail waitresses and the myriad customers and friends that share their lives and follows the fortunes of the ladies who bare their souls, tell it like it is and bring us into their world on a rollercoaster of a ride that will have you laughing and crying in equal measure.

The four main protagonists are Carol (Gillian McGurran), Adele (Ella Scally). Nikki (Rebecca Heery) and Mel (Lorraine Murphy) and apart from their characters, we are also introduced to another 20 additional people that are part of their working lives and customers of the cocktail bar that they work at, Shakers. Carol is the smart one. She’s been to college and is only waiting for the opportunity to better herself and make something of her life.

Nikki is a would-be actress with dreams of stardom and fame and even though she seems a bit ditsy, she has a heart of gold.

Adele is a girly-girl and wants nothing more than to settle down, but hides a deep dark secret.

Mel is the world-weary soul who simply looks on this as a job until something better or someone better comes along.

The action comes fast and furious, playing with the audience and drawing us into their world as we laugh, cry and experience the full gamut of emotions

To explain any more would simply spoil the surprise, as this really has to be seen to be believed, and after a long rehearsal process the girls are ready to share their journey.

Well-known local performer Paul Doolin, in his directorial debut, assisted by John ‘Banjo’ Quinn, have left no stone unturned to bring an evening of theatrical entertainment that will have you shouting for more.

• The play runs in The Stables at Smiddy’s in Dominick Street, Mullingar from September 19 to 22 at 8.30pm nightly.

Tickets are available from Smiddy’s but are selling out faster than a Usain Bolt 100 metres, and when they’re gone they’re gone!

Anyone for a cocktail?!
