Putting the saint back in St Patrick's Day

There may be no parade planned for Mullingar for St Patrick’s Day – but the great man himself will still be honoured in the parish, and children are being asked to help out.

“We are asking children to dress up as St Patrick or one of their favourite saints and join us for Mass on St Patrick’s Day in St Paul’s Church at 10.30am or 12 noon,” says Maria Kelly, a member of the recently formed parish pastoral team.

The parish pastoral team have also arranged for volunteers from ‘Children’s Gospel Stories’ to have lessons about St Patrick in the family room for children aged five to 10 years during 10.30am Mass.

“This is a great opportunity for your child to take part in celebrating St Patrick’s Day and also learn a little about the faith and Christianity that our patron saint brought to our homes. All are welcome.”

Irish Mass

As is now traditional, there is to be an Irish language Mass in the Cathedral of Christ the King at 11am on St Patrick’s Day.

Following that Mass there will be light refreshments in Bethany.

“There is always a large attendance at the Irish Mass and we invite all those in attending to join us for a cuppa,” says Maria.
