A Westmeath Pharmacy student, who recently moved to the UK to study, went on Winning last Saturday, November 9, and spun the wheel, and won €47,000 on the National Lottery TV game show on RTÉ One.

Edward Wright from Rathowen moved to the UK to study Pharmacy eight weeks ago and last week made an impromptu return to Ireland to appear on Winning Streak.

He won €22,000 on the Grand Prize Wheel, to add to the €22,000 he won in cash from the show and holiday (to Salzburg, Austria) worth €3,000, taking his total haul to the €47,000.

Edward started his studies in mid-September in Medway School of Pharmacy, an hour from London, where he will do his four-year Master’s of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree.

He wasn’t expecting to come home until Christmas but was delighted and excited to go on the game show and see all his friends and family at the same time.

His Winning Streak appearance really could not have come at a better time as Edward says he will put his winnings towards his studies.

Supporting him in the audience were his parents Alice and Fred and his sister Jennifer and brother, Reuben and other family members and friends.

In his spare time, something of a rarity these days, Edward likes to chill out by playing the piano.

He taught himself how to play when he was nine!

He played a lot and has even performed publicly on many occasions, at home but he misses the convenience of having a piano in his home.
