Dry bright day ahead

Today will be a mostly dry, bright day, with sunny spells, but some scattered showers will occur, mainly in western and northern coastal areas in the morning and early afternoon. Cooler and fresher than recent days, according to the latest weather forecast from Met Éireann. Maximum temperatures 15 to 17 degrees, in mostly moderate northwesterly breezes, strong on northern and northwestern coasts, but easing later.

It is forecast to be mainly dry overnight, with clear spells. In slack winds, a few mist patches may develop. Minimum temperatures 6 to 8 degrees, in mostly light southwesterly or variable breezes.

The national weather forecaster says that tomorrow (Thursday) will be mainly dry, with bright or sunny spells at first, especially in the east, but cloud will increase from the west and a few patches of light rain or drizzle may develop, mainly in western and northwestern coastal areas. Max. 14 to 16 Celsius, in mostly moderate southwesterly winds, becoming strong on the west coast.

Changeable weather is predicted for Friday and the weekend, with some rain or drizzle at times, especially in the west and north, but overall a good deal of dry weather. Cool at first, but becoming quite warm and humid from Sunday onwards.

Thursday night: Dry in most areas, with clear spells, but wet and windy weather will develop in western and northwestern coastal areas, with persistent and locally heavy rain. Min. 9 to 12 degrees, in mostly moderate southwesterly winds, but winds will be strong on Atlantic coasts.

Looking ahead to Friday and rain will extend gradually from the west and northwest during the morning and afternoon, persistent and locally heavy in parts of Connacht and Ulster in the morning, but tending to become more patchy as it moves southeastwards. Brighter conditions, with sunny spells and scattered showers, will follow from the northwest. Cool, with maximum temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees, in moderate to fresh west to southwest winds, strong on Ulster and north Connacht coasts.

Saturday should remain quite cool and mostly dry, with bright spells at first, but cloudy conditions will extend from the Atlantic and a little patchy rain or drizzle will develop in Atlantic coastal counties. Max. 14 to 18 Celsius. Becoming windy, especially on Atlantic, with moderate southwesterly winds increasing fresh to strong, with gales later on northwest coasts. Becoming mild and humid.

The outlook for Sunday is quite warm and humid, with rain and drizzle at times, mainly in Atlantic coastal counties. Hill and coastal fog also. Some bright or sunny spells will develop, mainly in the east and south. Maximum temperatures will range from 17 to 22 degrees, in moderate to fresh south to southwest winds, still strong on Atlantic coasts.

Current indications for early next week (Monday to Wednesday) suggest warm and humid weather, with some showery rain likely at times, but good dry spells also, with some sunny breaks.
