Form 6 student at Wilson’s Hospital School, Esther Cowan has been announced as the runner-up in the 2020 German Essay Writing competition hosted by the Irish Austrian Society.

She was due to attend a reception and prizegiving ceremony with the Austrian ambassador, Dr Thomas Nader, at his official residence on Ailesbury Road, Dublin. Unfortunately, current restrictions mean the presentation cannot take place.

Esther’s essay examined the significance of the Salzburg Festival in Austria, on this, the 100th anniversary of the festival.

Congratulations to Esther, who is from Castlepollard, on her excellent achievement and on being one of only two senior students nationally to place in this competition.
