Mullingar serviceman lays wreath at Mons

Brigadier General Ger Buckley, who is from Mullingar, laid a wreath on behalf of Ireland and our Defence Forces at the annual ceremony in St Symphorien Military Cemetery at Mons, Belgium.

There were four separate ceremonies this year, for Irish, Canadian, USA and UK service personnel, and a single military representative was present at each.

Lt Maurice Dease VC, born in Westmeath, is buried there.

Let us remember before God, and command to his sure keeping,

Those who died for their countries in two world wars,

And in peacekeeping operations throughout the world,

Those who we knew, and whose memory we treasure,

And all who have lived and died in the service of mankind.
