Snow and ice leave hazardous conditions

Highest temperatures of only 1 to 5 degrees with winds becoming mostly light to moderate southwesterly, but increasing fresh to strong in western coastal parts later in the day.

Met Éireann has warned that frost, ice and snow still in places will create hazardous conditions in some parts of the region.

Sunday morning will be very cold with frost, ice and with some lying snow in places, and its forecast that there'll be further falls of sleet and snow through the morning and early afternoon, especially in eastern and southern parts of the province.

“The sleet and snow will clear through the afternoon, but at the same time another band of wintry precipitation will move into the northwest.”

Sunday night will continue to remain cold with a widespread frost and icy patches forming early in the night.

“Wintry showers of sleet or snow with clear spells, showers mainly in the west and north with a lot of dry weather in the east and south. Lowest temperatures of 0 to -3 degrees.”

Met Éireann adds that fog will form in light to moderate westerly winds, although winds will be fresh and gusty on northwest coasts.

The outlook heading into the week is that Monday will bring showery outbreaks of rain or sleet during the day mixed with dry and bright intervals.

“Becoming overcast during the night, with a persistent spell of rain moving into the west towards morning as southerly winds freshen. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees with frost in places.”
