Weather Update

Mainly dry and cloudy today with some bright spells. Light patchy rain or drizzle will spread southwards late in the afternoon, according to the latest forecast from Met Éireann. Light easterly winds with highs of 6 or 7 degrees.

Dry overnight with long clear spells. Temperatures dropping back to -1 to +1 degrees with frost forming in places.

The national weather forecaster is forecasting sunny spells tomorrow (Friday) and holding dry for the day. Highest temperatures of 8 or 9 degrees in moderate southeasterly breezes.

The overview for the coming days is for a gradual return to more unsettled conditions over the weekend.

Conditions on Friday night should hold dry for most of the country, with rain and drizzle just affecting Atlantic coasts. Lowest temperatures ranging from -1 to +1 degrees in the north and east, with some frost developing, to 2 to 4 degrees in the west and south. Mostly moderate southeasterly winds.

Saturday is promised generally cloudy with limited bright spells. Rain and drizzle will push into coastal parts of Connacht and Ulster through the afternoon, but remaining dry elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with moderate to fresh southerly winds easing during the day.

On Saturday night outbreaks of rain and drizzle will continue to affect north and north western coasts. Holding dry for the rest of the country with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 2 degrees in the south, 2 to 5 degrees under cloud in the north and west. Light to moderate southerly winds.

Current indications suggest that eastern and southern areas will hold dry for much of Sunday. It will be generally cloudy as outbreaks of rain will edge slowly over the west and north of the country through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, southerly winds.

The rain will spread eastwards overnight on Sunday with scattered showers following in behind. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Further outlook: An unsettled regime is set to be established for early next week with rain and showers, breezy at times too.
