It's official: The Athlone €6.4m lotto winner has claimed their prize

Almost 11 weeks after the draw took place, the holder of the €6.4 million winning lotto ticket sold in Athlone has claimed their prize.

In a statement issued at lunchtime today (Friday), a lottery spokesperson confirmed that the lucky ticket holder was now better off to the tune of €6,489,165.

The 'Quick Pick' lotto ticket had been sold at the Applegreen service station in Athlone's Arcadia Retail Park, but it took more than a month for the winner to make contact with National Lottery headquarters.

No details have been disclosed about the winner, who "wishes to remain private".

The draw itself was held on Saturday, May 22.

A total of five lotto jackpots have been won so far in 2021.
