Council planning greenway link from Killucan

A 1.7km paved pedestrian and cycleway linking Killucan Rathwire to the Royal Canal Greenway at Thomastown is planned by Westmeath County Council.

It will create a 3m wide path, with new boundary fences, entrances, hedges and a bridge.

Map boards and tourist information boards will be provided, along with public lighting, cycle parking and benches, and signs and parking facilities in the town centre.

‘Appropriate Assessment Screening’ under the Habitats Directive and screening for Environmental Impact Assessment have been carried out, but anyone may, within the next four weeks, apply to An Bord Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the proposal would have a significant effect on the environment.

Details of the development will be at consult.westmeathcoco.ie/en and at the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, Áras an Chontae, Mullingar for inspection between September 13 and October 26.

Submissions can be made via the same weblink, or in writing to Áras an Chontae by 4pm on November 9, and clearly marked ‘Construction of Pedestrian and Cycle link from Killucan Rathwire to the Royal Canal Greenway at Thomastown’.

Written submissions received will form part of a statutory report to be presented to a meeting of Westmeath County Council and will form part of a public document. Information in submissions may be available for public inspection, to be published on the council website and available at its public counter.

Details, including names of those making submissions may be shared with relevant council departments or agents involved in the process.
