International Uilleann Piping Day at Annebrook Hotel

International Uilleann Piping Day, a global celebration of the instrument, took place around the world on Saturday, November 6, and the midland pipers group held an event at the Annebrook House Hotel.

The day of piping activity is organised by Na Píobairí Uilleann, to raise awareness of an iconic Irish instrument, and the gathering in Mullingar drew pipers from a broad area, plus music lovers from the locality.

Historian Ruth Illingworth addressed the group and audience, giving details of the origins of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Mullingar, the first fleadh, and looking forward to Cheoil na hÉireann in August 2022.
