Help with energy welcome, but more is required, says Clarke

The government announcement of €100 to help offset the increase in energy bills is welcome, but it should have not taken as long for the government to act, said the Sinn Féin TD for Longford Westmeath Sorca Clarke.

She said urgent clarity is required on whether workers and families who use pre-pay meters will be included in the scheme.

“Sinn Féin have pushed the government to act, but it should not have taken this long – people need help this side of Christmas. The government needs to tell us how they will ensure this support is extended to households using pre-paid electricity meters, and action broader than electricity is needed. People are struggling with rising costs. There is more to do.”
