WATCH: Mullingar courier firm travelling to Warsaw with vital supplies for Ukrainian people

A Mullingar courier firm is currently on the way to Warsaw with vital medical aid for the people of Ukraine.

Colm and Trevor Smullen's journey to the Polish capital began yesterday evening when they left Mullingar for Rosslare and the ferry to Cherbourg. When they dock in the French port later today, they will then drive the almost 2000 kilometres to Warsaw.

For the best part of two weeks Colm and a team of volunteers, which includes members of the Ukrainian community, have been processing donations from local businesses and members of the public.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner in the Smullen Couriers depot shortly before his departure, Colm said that the response from the people of Westmeath has been heartening, particularly for the Ukrainian community.

“The business people, the ordinary people of Mullingar, it's just been crazy. You wouldn't believe it,” he said.
